Invisalign® Frequently Asked Questions

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you’re wearing. The best part of Invisalign® is, it is almost completely unnoticeable. The aligners are clear, so you don’t have to worry about others noticing you are undergoing orthodontic treatment.

What is the difference between Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen®?

Invisalign teen aligners present a compliance indicator. This indicator is located on the back teeth and it will fade with correct wear of the aligners. If your teen is not wearing them, the blue indicator will not fade.
If any of the Invisalign teen aligners is lost, Invisalign will provide six replacement aligners for free.

Why choose Invisalign®?

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment. Plus, brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor’s office getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

How does Invisalign® work?

The Invisalign® system utilizes clear aligners that are custom made using powerful 3D modeling software. You wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to their final position, determined by Dr. Gonzalez at the beginning of treatment.

Does Invisalign® work for everyone?

Not all patients are suitable for Invisalign® treatment. The Invisalign® system is best for correcting minor orthodontic issues and jaw alignment problems. The aligners are not meant to correct severe orthodontic issues or jaw alignment problems. Individuals with mild to moderate tooth misalignment will benefit most from the Invisalign® system.

How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

How often should I wear my aligners?

Invisalign is most effective when worn 20 to 22 hours per day and change every one to two weeks depending on Dr. Gonzalez’s recommendations.

Is Invisalign® Painful?

While Invisalign® can cause some temporary discomfort, each aligner is created in a way to minimize pain while gradually altering your smile. Though everyone has different reactions to Invisalign®, most patients easily adapt to each aligner without pain, and with only minor irritation.

How much does Invisalign® cost?

Invisalign® costs about the same as traditional braces. Cost will change depending on the complexity of the case. You should also check your dental insurance plan. Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® is covered by many dental insurance policies. If you don’t have dental insurance, Dr. Gonzalez and her treatment coordinator will offer you affordable and flexible monthly payments to get you one step closer to your purest smile!

The Invisalign Process

Are you interested in Invisalign and want to learn how Dr. Gonzalez can get you on your way to your purest smile? Follow these three easy steps:

Schedule Your Visit

Start with a free consultation with Dr. Gonzalez, and let us know that you’re interested in Invisalign.
Pure Smiles Orthodontics will help you achieve your best smile and determine whether you’re an optimal fit for Invisalign.

Get scanned

Pure Smiles will scan your teeth with panoramic x-rays and use 3D imaging tools right in our Austin Orthodontist office to show you where your smile is now, and what it will look like after treatment.
After the scan, we’ll analyze the images to map out an accurate treatment plan, showing the precise movements of your teeth. Analysis can also include an estimate of time for the treatment! This way, you’ll have a good idea of how long you’ll be wearing your Invisalign aligners.

Receive your Aligners

Based on your treatment, you’ll receive a series of clear aligners created just for you. Aligners are typically worn for two week periods each before being replaced by the next aligners in the series. Because Invisalign uses aligners that will be accurately designed with this series in mind, you won’t have as many orthodontist visits for wire adjustments like you would with regular braces. Keep wearing your Invisalign aligners 21 hours a day.

That’s it!

Invisalign advantages

  • Appearance – Invisalign aligners are practically invisible in your mouth, making them perfect for people who are worried about their appearance with traditional metal braces.
  • No eating restrictions – Because Invisalign aligners are removable, you can take your aligners out to eat and drink, leaving nothing to get stuck between wires.
  • Promotes better periodontal health – Brushing your teeth with traditional braces isn’t as easy as brushing your teeth without braces. This allows you to brush and floss your teeth normally without any added constraints. There’s also less places for food particles to get stuck than in traditional braces
  • Comfortable – After a short period of getting used to your aligners, it’s easy to adjust to Invisalign. Invisalign aligners are made with BPA-free plastic that won’t irritate your mouth.
